LIFE OF AGONY'S ALAN ROBERT ANNOUNCES NYC BOOK RELEASE PARTY AND MORE OCTOBER APPEARANCES
Life of Agony is currently wrapping up production on its highly anticipated new studio album "A Place Where There's No More Pain" (Napalm Records), due in early 2017. This November and December, the group heads over to Europe for a full headlining tour, but before they do, LOA bassist/songwriter Alan Robert sets out to support the release of his best-selling, horror-themed adult coloring book at several events this October.
“The Beauty of Horror” was called by The Nerdist “delightfully macabre.” His video teaser, “Inside the Beauty of Horror,” continues to generate more and more attention for the book. “I wanted to make the ultimate horror coloring book. If there was a book that I, as a horror fan, wanted to buy, this would be it,” he said.
"Bookstores are filled with coloring books for adults, but there’s a huge void for the kind of creepy art that horror fans like me want to color, so I decided to create my own," Robert explains. "The world needs a book like this to cut through the mandalas! It’s art therapy for the abnormal…and trust me, there are plenty of us."
Pre-Order "The Beauty of Horror: A GOREgeous Coloring Book" at a REDUCED PRICE for a limited time from one of these fine booksellers...
Life of Agony have surprised fans by revealing plans to release their first new album in over a decade, A Place Where There's No More Pain (Napalm Records). "I think our fans know that our music comes from a very real place of suffering, from all of us in the band," says bassist and songwriter Alan Robert, addressing the record's title. "Many of our fans have told us over the years that sharing our personal struggles has been cathartic for them in healing the pain in their own lives. That uplifting energy we share at the shows, gives us hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel. And for us and hopefully our fans, that short time when we're all together is a place where there's no more pain."—Alan Robert, Life of Agony
Life of Agony's Alan Robert will perform with legendary Misfits horror-punk Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein at Rock and Shock Festival (Worcester Palladium) on Friday October 17th, 2014 as part of a supergroup named THE ROCKING DEAD. Robert's band Life of Agony will co-headline the festival with Gwar the following night (10/18/14). Robert's Killogy Halloween Special (IDW) comic book starring Doyle will be available for signing at the event. For more info: http://rockandshock.com/bands/
Award-winning executive producer/writer Rodney Barnes (The Boondocks, Everybody Hates Chris) has joined forces with Robert to develop an animated television series based on Killogy. Barnes and Robert will serve as executive producers on the series, with Barnes penning the screenplay for the pilot episode. Celebrities Frank Vincent, Marky Ramone and Brea Grant, who all appeared in the Killogy graphic novel, will now lend their voices to the show. Producers Chris White (My Super Psycho Sweet 16 franchise) and Jeff Mazzola (Descent) are also on board.
Killogy leverages a unique mix of humor, horror and pop culture to tell the unique tale of a group of murderers who inadvertently unleash an ancient voodoo curse upon New York. “For me, it’s all a bit surreal,” says Robert. “I basically get to mash-up some of my favorite childhood heroes, throw them into these outrageous situations, and sit back and imagine what happens next. The series practically writes itself!”
"I'm happy to see the worlds Alan has created extend into new areas beyond comics," said Chris Ryall, IDW's Chief Creative Office/Editor-in-Chief. "His comic books are so visually intriguing and the characters he's created so fully formed that they'll translate really well into animation and other areas. But I'm also glad that he's still doing more comics, and the Killogy one-shot sounds like a perfectly dark treat for Halloween, too."
Killogy was nominated for Best Mini-Series at the 2013 Ghastly Awards and picked up a Horror Comic Award for Best Scene from ComicMonsters.com. Bloody Disgusting listed Killogy at #4 on their Top 10 Best Mini-Series of 2013. The Killogy graphic novel was recently licensed out to territories outside of the U.S. and will see a Brazilian release this summer from publisher NFL ZINE. The book will be translated in Portuguese. Ex-Misfits horror-punk legend Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein will star in a special Halloween edition of Killogy, a comic book created, written and illustrated by Life of Agony’s Alan Robert and published by IDW Publishing (Godzilla, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The critically acclaimed Killogy graphic novel was originally released in 2013 with characters based on celebrities Frank Vincent (Goodfellas, Casino, The Sopranos), Marky Ramone (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, the Ramones) and Brea Grant (Heroes, Dexter). The Halloween one-shot comic continues where the Killogy story left off and introduces new character, Doyle, as humanity’s last hope in a post-apocalyptic world flooded by an ocean of blood. The book will also feature a 10-page exclusive first-look at Robert’s forthcoming IDW series The Shunned One. Learn more, here: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/67307

“To witness this little story develop into what it’s become is quite mind-blowing to me,” Says Robert. “It’s true horror in the sense that it’s meant to scare the reader to the core. Not just visually, but emotionally, too. Edgar is as terrifying as villains get and not just because of the vulgarities we actually see on the page, but more so, because of what’s implied in between the panels.”
Crawl To Me is both written and illustrated by Robert, with a beautifully painted dust jacket by artist menton3 of Monocyte fame. It’s part psychological thriller and part haunted house story. Ain’t it Cool News praised it as being “Gorgeous and terrifying,” while Fangoria raved, “Readers will be blown away by the story and art of this psychological thriller.” Crawl To Me was awarded Best Mini-Series of the Year by ComicMonsters.com and Hollywood is already taking notice. Crawl To Me is currently in development to become a live-action feature film, with a screenplay penned by screenwriters T.J Cimfel and David White.
“Alan’s like no one we’ve ever seen. Incredibly talented, incredibly motivated.” Says Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “He comes in with these amazing, really dark, really twisted ideas. And you’re thinking, there’s no way a story like that can be pulled off in such a tight page count, and then the pages get here, and they’re complete home runs. Any series from Alan is a thrill.”
Alan Robert is a man of many talents, and they are fully on display in the pages of Crawl To Me. The book is available for pre-order immediately on www.idwlimited.com with a ship date of mid-November.
